Other Leave - Special Circumstances


According to the Collective Agreement section shown below, A Long Term Occasional Teacher may request additional leave with pay, for up to a maximum of 3 days per school year. Please read more information about this below.


Article 18.01

A Long Term Occasional Teacher may request additional leave with pay, for up to a maximum of 3 days per school year accrued at the rate of 1 day for each three (3) months of the Long Term Occasional assignment, for an illness of a family member or for special circumstances. Such leave may be granted for:

  • Essential personal matters

  • Personal reasons not including a person's business

  • Family illness

  • University/College examinations

  • Attendance at summer courses that commence prior to the end of the school year

  • Persons/family involvements in weddings, graduations, and other such ceremonies

  • Religious holy days

  • Family involvement around the time of adoption/birth of a child

  • Divorce and/or child custody proceedings

Such leave with pay shall not be considered an interruption in services for the calculation of the length of the assignment.
