To be eligible for benefits, you have to be in a Long Term Assignment for 90 calendar days. This means if you have an end date which is 90 days in the future, you will be contacted via your Board email by OTIP/Manulife and asked to register for benefits. This email may take 4-6 weeks to be sent and you will have 30 days to register from the date the email is sent.
Benefits are prorated so you do not pay if you are a 1.0 FTE (unless you request additional coverage), and if you are less than a 1.0, you will be required to pay a prorated amount (e.g., If you are have a 0.6 FTE, you would pay 40% of the cost of the benefits).
If your Long Term Assignment is to a "date unknown," once you reach the 90th calendar day in the position, you will be contacted via your Board email by OTIP/Manulife and asked to register for benefits. This email may take 4-6 weeks to be sent and you will have 30 days to register from the date the email is sent. Once your registration is confirmed, you will be able to submit eligible receipts retroactively to the first day of the Long Term Assignment.
