Grades: K-2 Dates: July 15 - July 17 Presenters: Erinn Clark with Heather Ruddell Topic: Literacy Division: Kindergarten - Grade 2 Course Location: Seaforth (near Stratford) Main intersection - Main Street N & Goderich Street E Course Description Are your phonics lessons crowding out your read-alouds and poems? Have you been using UFLI and are wondering about your next steps? You’ll learn what’s missing from UFLI and other structured phonics programs and what the screener results aren’t telling you. Together, we’ll learn ways to weave word recognition with language comprehension, grounded in authentic texts and elevated by oral language, art, and play. Yes, you can still use beautiful, rich picture books, poems, and levelled books alongside decodables! You’ll start the year with a plan to set up your classroom and curriculum for a dynamic, evidence-based literacy program. In this three-day course we will examine what’s missing and how to add some spark to your Literacy programming. Course Requirements Participants will need a Wi-Fi enabled laptop or Chromebook to participate in this workshop. iPads/tablets are not recommended for this workshop.
